Services

LBA provides scientific services in the following areas:

  1. Development of quality assurance systems
  2. Modelling, analysis and optimization of production/manufacturing systems
  3. Strategic planning
  4. Reverse Logistics Management

These services are implemented in full scale through funded research programs. On a smaller scale, quantitative industrial management approaches are applied in various public and private companies as case studies in the context of diploma theses.

1. Development of quality assurance systems

The service consists of the development of integrated systems for the control, continuous improvement and quality assurance of industrial products.

Methodologically, the system is developed in 4 stages as follows:

Α. Mapping and analysis of the production processes and identification of the quality characteristics of raw materials, intermediate and end products.
Β. Determination of critical quality characteristics (attributes or variables) and their respective specifications; process capability analysis.
C. Development of acceptance sampling plans, process control charts, industrial experiments.
D. Development of acceptance sampling plans, process control charts, industrial experiments.

The required duration for the development of the system can range from 6 months to 2 years or more, depending on the plant size and scope of the system.

2. Modelling, analysis and optimization of production/manufacturing systems

This service provides applied studies for production/manufacturing systems in the following fields:

  • Capacity Planning
  • Process design and facility layout
  • Assembly line design
  • Job design and work study
  • Organizational design
  • Short-medium-long term Production Planning and Control
  • Inventory planning and control
  • Materials Management

The duration of these studies can range from 4 months to 2 years or more, depending on the size of the production system and the complexity of the problem.

3. Strategic Planning

This service provides strategic organizational design, human resource planning and business plans for the enterprises and organizations of the private and public sector.

The duration of projects usually ranges from 2 to 6 months, depending on the size of the organization and the required depth of analysis.

4. Reverse Logistics Management

This service provides solutions for logistics network design and analysis and management of closed-loop supply chains with recycling and/or remanufacturing activities. The methodological tools include standard operations research analytical methods as well as dynamic simulation models which can be used as decision support systems to aid decision making in the following areas:

  • Strategic capacity planning
  • Reverse logistics network design
  • Procurement and inventory management, including sorting operations for used products
  • Coordination issues
  • Eco-eco closed loop supply chain improvement
