The research activities of the LBA focus on the following areas:

  • Statistical Quality Control and Quality Assurance
  • Modeling and Analysis of Production Systems – Production Management
  • Production Planning and Control
  • Inventory Management
  • Closed-loop Supply Chains and Reverse Logistics
  • System Dynamics
  • Reliability and Maintenance Management

The research activity in these areas takes the form of both basic and applied research:

– Basic research is published in international peer-reviewed journals and in doctoral dissertations under the supervision of the Laboratory’s professors.
– Applied research focuses on improving the operational and economic efficiency of enterprises and organizations in the private and public sector. It is performed usually in the context of research projects under the coordination of the faculty of LBA.

At the international level members of the Laboratory have developed joint research activities with distinguished universities in Europe including INSEAD, Erasmus University Rotterdam, through EU programs and other cooperation schemes.

International recognition of the Laboratory’s research work and contribution is evident by the fact that the Laboratory’s faculty are or have been members of Editorial Boards of several international journals, including Management Science, Operations Research, Production and Operations Management, and have been repeatedly invited as speakers at international conferences and universities worldwide.
